Just like any other Helitack crew, Zion Helitack spends a lot of time at the base waiting for dispatch. We require a maximum dispatch time of 15 minutes (and often we are off the ground within 10) This means that everyone spends a lot of time together in an area where getting some time alone isn't always easy.We do our best to keep people motivated, and ready for the fun of responding to fires. Allowing everyone to become lethargic isn't part of that plan. Although management of Zion Helitack does not believe in creating a lot of busy work just to keep us busy... there are a lot of projects that we do around the base. The best however is the anticipation for the fun activities.... some are planned and some are impromtu, all are fun.
This last 4th of July found law enforcement visiting the Air Center to inquire about illegal fireworks launched from the vecinity of the Air Center. Management was present, however no one knows exactly who was involved or to what extent... Iceman still swears he saw 4 brothers running in various directions as the officers arrived... that joke never seems to lose steam. With reports of the brothers being seen months later, as far north as Montana...
I am looking forward to more gatherings on the Air Center grounds...
Cheers,
